SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Josh Kogler rushed for 183 yards and three second-half touchdowns to lead Edison to a 28-17 nonleague victory over Orange Friday at El Modena High.

Kogler scored on runs of 10, one and six yards, including two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Chargers, ranked seventh in Orange County, rallied for the win.

Edison (3-0-1) overcame a 10-point halftime deficit. Orange (1-3) piled up 235 yards of offense in the first half, taking a 17-7 lead. But the Chargers adjusted on defense and limited Orange to only 29 yards in offense the rest of the way.

“I hyperventilated a bit at the half,” Edison Coach Dave White said. “I challenged them and they responded.

“We knew we could move the ball on them.”

After a scoreless first quarter, Orange jumped to a 7-0 lead on Chance Perry’s 18-yard run with 9:35 left in the half.

Edison came back on its next possession when Darin Pope went off left tackle for a 10-yard touchdown with 6:23 left in the second quarter. The Chargers lost starting quarterback Jeff Grady for the rest of the half when he was sacked by linebacker Chris Mayes. He returned for the second half.

Orange regained the lead on its next play when Zach Bell hit Derald Deason with a 74-yard touchdown pass. Deason finished with six catches for 140 yards.

A 25-yard field goal by Greg Jones with 47 seconds left in the half gave the Panthers a 17-7 halftime lead.
