Homes to Receive Gas Shut-Off Valves
Automatic gas shut-off valves will be installed on a test basis in the homes of 30 low-income Ventura County residents to determine whether the valves should be included in public safety programs.
Such valves automatically shut off the flow of natural gas during an earthquake greater than magnitude 5.4.
The first valve was installed in a Simi Valley home earlier this month.
The program is sponsored by the nonprofit Commission on Human Concerns, which also provides weatherization services for low-income families.
