Alameda Corridor

Share

* A transportation corridor along Alameda Street is not a recent idea. In the ‘20s there was talk of using Alameda for commercial traffic only and changing the name to “Truck Boulevard.”

Street names did get changed in that period. South Park was renamed Avalon, to promote tourism to Catalina. Moneta, south of Manchester, was changed to Broadway. And 100th Street, which ran between Avalon and Western, was changed to Century Boulevard and also was to become a military highway. Survey stakes were set in front yards of residents along 100th.

The best part, to me, was news of dredging a canal along Wall Street, connecting the harbor with a customs house in downtown L.A. I lived one empty lot from Wall on 100th and looked forward to fishing every day.
