3 Wounded When Shots Are Fired Into Vehicle

Three people were shot early Sunday morning while driving through La Colonia, with one of the victims listed in critical condition at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, authorities said.

Shortly after midnight, a group of five Oxnard residents were riding in a vehicle on Lupita Street, near 1st Street, police said. Occupants of that vehicle told police that a white vehicle carrying several Hispanic gang members drove near them, yelled gang slogans and opened fire.

Three of the five people in the first vehicle were shot. One male was to undergo surgery at St. John’s for gunshot wounds to his upper chest. He was listed in critical condition.

Information on the other two gunshot victims was unavailable. In addition, another occupant was injured by shattered glass, police said.

Police said that all of the victims were expected to live. They had reported no arrests and were continuing their investigation Sunday.
