School Candidates to Field Questions

A parents group at Buena High will host a candidates forum for the eight people seeking seats on the Ventura Unified School District board of trustees.
The forum is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the high school’s Marvin Steitz Theater.
Eight candidates--including incumbents John B. Walker, Velma L. Lomax and Cliff Rodrigues--are running for three open seats in the Nov. 4 election.
The other candidates are Oxnard High School facilities director Louis J. Cunningham, small-business owner Dustan Howard, teacher Cynthia Z. Hansen, teacher William F. Bateman and educator Alicia Jaquez-Bryant.
Each candidate will have a few minutes for opening remarks and then will take questions from the audience, said Pamela Oestreich, a member of Buena’s Parent Teacher Student Assn.
“I think it’s important, with all the issues we’ve had, for people to come out and meet the candidates,” Oestreich said. “This gives them an opportunity to know who they are voting for.”
