Re “‘Cal State Hires Chancellor of Florida System,” Oct. 7:

As a 49-year-old junior at Cal State L.A. I’ve had serious concerns about the quality of the education I am receiving. Almost every instructor has: 1) apologized to the students for having to test, 2) extended deadlines, 3) diluted the grading system, or 4) spoon-fed content that is critical--”This review is important, because all of this will appear on your midterm.” Unfortunately, I almost never need to read my texts or determine what is essential material, because the instructor does it for me.

Well, good luck, Charles Reed! Hopefully you’ll stand up for a disciplined educational system that forces the students to be responsible. And please don’t make the same PR gaffe outgoing Chancellor Barry Munitz made, and I quote, “If there is literally anyone . . . who is prepared for this job, it is him.” The correct wording is “it is he.” Now, what’s the problem with the Cal State system?
