Latino Panel Renamed to Reflect New Focus

The Latino Leadership Council changed its name to the Latino Business Council on Monday to better represent its focus, which no longer includes social or political issues.
Earlier this year, council directors voted to join the Costa Mesa Chamber of Commerce and focused on the Latino marketplace.
“The LBC directors are not turning their backs on the needs of the community members but are realizing the limits to the number of events that they can effectively sponsor,” according to an organization statement.
Previously, meetings included discussion about a wide array of topics, including the need to hire more Spanish-speaking police officers and demographic shifts in the city’s population.
The LBC plans four general meetings next year with a speaker on a business-related topic and mixers that encourage Latino business leaders to network with general chamber membership.
