Leyland Says Past is Past, but He Still Gets a Present

Marlin Manager Jim Leyland managed the Pirates when they lost championship series to the Reds in 1990, and the Braves in ’91 and ’92.
Leyland said the Marlins’ victory doesn’t erase the pain of those losses.
“These are two totally different groups of people, so you can’t look at it like that,” Leyland said. “This is special for our organization right now. The past is the past.”
However, the Marlins said they were happy to give Leyland something he had wanted for so long.
“This is very special, that we could do this,” Jeff Conine said. “He has been here so many times before and now he’s finally won it.”
