It’s a Look Any Guy Can Cop To

Share

Italian designer Romeo Gigli must have been watching a lot of “Starsky and Hutch” reruns when he designed his fall menswear collection. The leather jackets, stovepipe jeans, and wide leather belts with double rows of grommets scream ‘70s cop series.

How about this red and oh-so-retro sportswear as seen on this model strutting down the runway in Milan. The red double-breasted leather jacket for $1,350 was thrown over a layered look of red wool turtleneck for $225 and red-and-black corduroy checked shirt for $250. All of this layers over the shrunken, hippie-esque, tie-dyed V-necked Gigli signature sweater for $345. Besides sweaters, Gigli also tie-dyed corduroy sport jackets for this collection.

The plush red cotton moleskin stove pipe pants, for $275, were shown with a two-inch black leather belt studded with double rows of grommets, made strictly for the runway. The black designer shoes can be bought for $325.

The menswear Romeo Gigli collection can be found in the Los Angeles area at Traffic, Maxfield, Barneys New York and Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s Store.

One way to find this designer look for fall and not spend a fortune is to check out your favorite secondhand or thrift store. La Brea Avenue has some of the best ones with the latest retro fashions for the trendy set. We found this brown secondhand jacket for $39, and the V-necked red sweater for $15 at Yellowstone Clothing, near the corner of Melrose Avenue. We tie-dyed the sweater at home to get the Gigli look. The red cotton T-shirt for $9.99 and the red, black and white checked cotton shirt for $12.99 were found at Ross Dress for Less, Hollywood. Both were designed by Structure. The red, cotton velvet, five-pocket boot jeans were designed by Lipservice of Los Angeles and sells for $110. The pants are also available in black and in paisley. Lipservice made the black leather belt, which costs $45. Both are available at the Tasty Store on Melrose. The black leather shoes were also found at Ross for $49.99.
