UC Santa Barbara Officials Will Speak to Students
- Share via
In the wake of the University of California Regents’ elimination of affirmative action, officials from UC Santa Barbara will be in Watts today to offer advice and encouragement to students from three area high schools on the best ways to get admitted to the UC system.
More than 250 high school seniors from Jordan, Locke and Verbum Dei high schools will be on hand for the event at the Watts Labor Community Action Committee.
“I want to make sure that young people have access to information because all too often the information does not filter down to the inner city,” said Joan Walker Scott, admissions counselor at UC Santa Barbara. “Too often what they hear gets distorted along the way, and it discourages them. We need to make sure they are not out of the loop.”
