Watsonville-based Granite Construction Inc. and New York-based Yonkers Contracting Co. have received a $190.6-million contract to design and build a highway and tunnel in Atlantic City, N.J., in a joint venture, Granite said. Granite, a heavy-construction company, and closely held Yonkers will construct the Atlantic City-Brigantine connector, a 2.3-mile link between the Atlantic City Expressway and the city’s Marina District. The project is funded by the state of New Jersey and casino operator Mirage Resorts Inc. Separately, Granite expects to bid for dozens of projects in California’s $2.6-billion plan to repair seven major toll bridges, which includes a $1.29-billion plan to replace the eastern portion of the San Francisco-Oakland bridge damaged in the 1989 earthquake. Shares of Granite rose 50 cents to close at $22.56 on the New York Stock Exchange.
