New City Manager Gets 3-Year Contract

Don Vestal, who was named city manager last week, was awarded a three-year contract Thursday by the City Council at a salary of $112,500 annually.

A former public works director, Vestal had served as interim city manager since the resignation of Bill Smith six months ago.

The council cited Vestal’s extensive experience in municipal government--22 years--as the deciding factor in its unanimous decision.

Vestal, 48, was hired by Westminster in 1977 as a city planner. He rose to public works director in 1989 and was given the title of deputy city manager in 1994.
