Ontario Christian 25, Whittier Christian 8--Ontario Christian turned a couple of failed Whittier Christian scoring opportunities into second-quarter touchdowns en route to a victory at Whittier College.
Whittier Christian scored on the opening drive, covering 65 yards on five plays. Matt Thomson hit Josh Stofler with a 22-yard scoring pass for an 8-0 lead.
The Heralds had a chance to increase their lead on the first play of the second quarter. Justin Boonestroo of Ontario Christian blocked a 31-yard field-goal attempt by Ryan Hedwall, which the Knights recovered on their one-yard line.
Ontario Christian (2-4, 1-0) drove 99 yards on 12 plays, with Ryan Fuqua scoring from 31 yards to cut the lead to two points.
Whittier Christian (4-2, 0-1) blew another scoring chance, driving to the Knights’ 13-yard line with 21 seconds left in the half. Jason Haringsma intercepted a Thomson pass and returned it to the Knight 34 with 12 seconds left. Eric Rardin completed his only pass of the night, a 66-yarder to Rob Behnke for a 12-8 halftime lead.
Fuqua, who rushed for 230 yards, had scoring runs of 45 and 58 yards in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
