BORREGO SPRINGS--This desert community next weekend hosts the Borrego Days Desert Festival. A parade (11 a.m. Saturday along Palm Canyon Drive), horseshoe tourney, miniature train rides, food vendors and live music will be featured at Christmas Circle, at Palm Canyon Drive and Borrego Springs Road. 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. LAKE FOREST--Heritage Hill Historic Park throws open its historic buildings to visitors, and transforms its one-room schoolhouse into a haunted house for Saturday’s Autumn Harvest Festival. There will be trick-or-treating, storytelling, a children’s costume parade at 6 p.m., pie-eating and apple-bobbing contests and 25-cent carnival games. 5-9 p.m. at 25151 Serrano Road. $2, $1 children 12 and under. SAN LUIS OBISPO--The International Film Festival enters its fifth year with old favorites and new features, Oct. 30-Nov. 9. Opening night is a fete for actor Ernest Borgnine (6 p.m., Fremont Theatre, 1025 Monterey St., $30), and the Nov. 30 wrap-up features Tom Capra (son of director Frank Capra) and classic silent films (4 p.m. at the Fremont, $10). Also: panel discussions, an homage to director Don Siegel (“Dirty Harry,” “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”), a tribute to classic westerns and more. ANTIOCH--It’s not yet Halloween, but signs of Christmas are cropping up.
