A 16-year-old Garden Grove youth was killed and two other youths were injured early Sunday when their car was sprayed by gunfire in what police believe was a gang-related confrontation.

Officers received a call of shots being fired shortly after 1 a.m. and arrived at the corner of West Civic Center Drive and Raitt Street to find a car stalled in the middle of Raitt Street.

Sixteen-year-old Andres Garcia, who was still inside the vehicle, had been shot in the torso and died at the scene.

Of three other teenage boys in the car, one was uninjured and two received injuries that were not considered life threatening, Santa Ana Police Officer Jim Donnelly said.

The victims, whose names were not released because of their ages, were from Garden Grove and had “Garden Grove gang affiliation,” Donnelly said.

The Santa Ana Police Department’s gang unit is investigating the shooting. No suspects were identified.
