Flowers Expected Back For Game On Saturday

Although Coach Jim Fenwick said Monday that he won’t know for sure until later this week, senior quarterback Aaron Flowers is expected to start Saturday for Cal State Northridge against Cal State Sacramento in a Big Sky Conference football game at North Campus Stadium.

Flowers missed the past three games with a fractured right leg and was replaced by sophomore Josh Fiske, who sprained the small finger of his left hand on Saturday at Montana State but finished the game.

The injury was confirmed by an X-ray Monday.

“The speculation is that Flowers will be ready,” Fenwick said. “We are going to work them both in practice. . . If he’s capable, we’ll go to Aaron.”

Flowers, Northridge’s career passing leader, has 1,539 yards passing and 14 touchdowns this season. Fiske has 979 yards passing and five touchdowns.

The Matadors (3-4, 1-2 in Big Sky play) will try to rebound against Sacramento (1-5, 1-3) after a 31-20 loss to Montana State.

“We’ve got five [games] left and I want to win every one,” Fenwick said.

Wide receiver Drew Hill, who had career highs with 13 receptions for 153 yards at Montana State, is comfortable with either Flowers or Fiske at quarterback. But has a sentimental favorite.

“Josh did throw me the ball 13 times,” Hill said.

Sacramento Coach John Volek is comparing the intrastate match-up with Northridge to the Civil War.

“This is the North and the South,” Volek said. “We like the history in that situation. The blue [North] won that [war].”
