O.C. Plans to Appeal $4-Million FEMA Bill

County officials said Tuesday that they will appeal a decision by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which says that the county owes it $4 million in disaster relief stemming from the severe floods of 1995.

Federal investigators maintain that the agency sent about $9 million in flood relief to Orange County and that local officials only spent about $5 million.

County officials maintain that the agency only gave them $5 million.

Federal officials asked the county this week to repay the agency, but William L. Zaun, the county’s public works chief, said Tuesday that the county is likely to appeal the decision to the federal agency’s director.
