Boy, 9, Accidentally Shot in Home
A 9-year-old Oxnard boy was recovering at St. Johns Regional Medical Center after he was accidentally shot in his home, an Oxnard Police Department spokesman said.
Police believed that Joshua Moises Vega was struck by a bullet about 11 a.m. Wednesday after a handgun he was playing with went off in the family’s home on Felicia Court in Oxnard.
The bullet passed through his hand and then struck him in the stomach, Oxnard Police Det. Tim Lumas said.
The boy was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery.
Hospital officials, at the family’s request, declined to give his condition. But “He’s going to be all right,” Lumas said.
Family members contacted at the hospital declined comment Wednesday.
