District Considers Site for High School

Raising concerns among some city officials and residents, a prime piece of undeveloped land could become a high school, a school district official said this week.

Facilities director Mike Vail said the Santa Ana Unified School District could decide by Tuesday whether to grant preliminary approval to annexing an approximately 15-acre plot at 2828 N. Bristol St.

Vail made his remarks to the City Council during a study session on North Bristol and other sites.

Some residents oppose a school at the site, saying it would worsen traffic and that school officials should condemn an area with deteriorated housing.

The privately owned land at the site is vacant, except for a small strip of businesses and homes on the southern end.

Councilman Brett Franklin asked that neighbors be informed of any plans and said the school district had previously rejected the site.
