Building to House Fitness Center

A building that has played home to the Thousand Oaks Library, Amgen Inc. and even City Hall, among others, will have a new tenant beginning later this year, but this time it will be permanent.

The Sports Club Co. recently signed an agreement to purchase the 88,000-square-foot building on Conejo Ridge Road for an estimated $6.4 million and open a Spectrum Club Fitness Center by late 1998.

The club, which will be housed on the bottom 55,000-square-foot part of the industrial building, will offer fitness choices that run the gamut from aerobics, to weight training, to basketball and volleyball. The new facility will be Southern California’s 11th Spectrum Club and one of the largest.

Sport Club Co. officials said they hope to meet with the same success they had when they opened a center in Valencia last July. That club, which is of comparable size, has already attracted about 5,000 members.
