Trustees Approve Sale of School Land to Developer

The Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees unanimously passed an agreement this week to sell 4.7 acres of Kennedy High School to the Olson Co. for a housing development.

If approved by the La Palma City Council, the sale would generate $3.2 million for the district, plus an extra $150,000 from the developers, board President Harald G. Martin said.

He said he hoped the City Council would act quickly on the proposal, allowing construction to begin early next summer.

In a related action, the trustees approved a resolution requiring sale proceeds to be used for improvements at Kennedy High School, including a new pool and auditorium. Athletic fields displaced by the development would be rebuilt elsewhere on campus.

The resolution came in response to concerns from parents that sale proceeds might be used elsewhere in the district.

“I am extremely pleased that we have this in writing so that [the community] knows the money will go to them, because that is where it came from,” Trustee L.E. “Slim” Terrell said.
