SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A traveling musician on Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury’s list of “most wanted deadbeat parents” for 1996 pleaded guilty Friday to charges that he failed to provide more than $73,000 in child support.

Jose Campos Aguilar, 39, faces a Nov. 3 sentencing. He was expected to be released Friday night from Ventura County Jail, where he has been held since Sept. 30 following his arrest three days earlier in a Guadalupe bar, Deputy Dist. Atty. Ron Carpenter said.

He pleaded guilty in Ventura County Municipal Court.

“Naturally we’re always pleased to arrest any parent that’s not providing for their children,” Carpenter said.

Aguilar has failed to pay support for his four children, ages 13 to 17, since his 1989 divorce, according to Carpenter.

Aguilar’s ex-wife, whose name was not given, and their four children live in Ventura, Carpenter said.

He said Aguilar lived in Ventura, Oxnard and Santa Maria before moving to Austin, Texas, in 1995. Last year, Aguilar moved to Guadalupe, a small Santa Barbara County town.

He faces a maximum of one year in jail and a $2,000 fine when he appears before a Ventura County Municipal Court judge, Carpenter said.
