Hotel Hosts an Early Halloween for Children

Pumpkin painting and some ahead-of-schedule trick-or-treating were on the agenda for inner-city elementary school students visiting a Century City hotel Tuesday.

About 120 second- and third-graders from Martin Luther King Jr. and 74th Street Elementary Schools attended the Halloween-themed carnival, said Rob Cameron, director of sales and marketing at the Park Hyatt Los Angeles.

The carnival, sponsored by the Los Angeles Police Department, the city Fire Department and dozens of local businesses, allowed children to trick-or-treat from room to room on a specially decorated floor of the hotel.

“The kids can’t help but be excited,” said Melanie Edmond, a third-grade teacher at 74th Street Elementary.

Cameron said the event also raised $6,500 for Camp Ronald McDonald, a camp for children with cancer.
