Man Arrested for Alleged Threats Against Galanter

A man apparently upset with the process of getting his street zoned for parking permits was arrested for allegedly threatening to beat Councilwoman Ruth Galanter with a baseball bat, police said Wednesday.

Police said Ted Dixon, 44, was arrested at his home on suspicion of making a terrorist threat.

Dixon called Galanter’s office late Monday afternoon, saying he had petitioned the city to give residents on his street preferential parking permits, and asked if the matter was scheduled for consideration at the upcoming Transportation Committee meeting, said Galanter deputy Mike Bonin.

Told that the matter was not scheduled to be heard, Dixon “started using a lot of profanity and said he would deal with the situation in his own way. He said he lived three streets from [Galanter], knew where she lived, and would knock her head off with a baseball bat,” Bonin said.

Bonin reported the threat to City Hall security officers and police officers, and told Galanter when she came out of a City Council meeting. “She took the news calmly,” he said.

In May 1987, a heroin addict broke into Galanter’s house and seriously wounded her.

Dixon had repeatedly been in contact with Galanter’s office over the last few months, and had left his name and address, said Bonin. “So, he made it easy to find him.”

LAPD spokesman Alton Jones said that Dixon acknowledged making the call and that a baseball bat was recovered at his residence.
