A man who allegedly held eight people, including his three children, at knifepoint was arrested early Sunday after a standoff with the Oxnard Police Department’s SWAT team, authorities said.

About midnight Saturday, Officer Robin Whitney was hailed by a passerby and told that a woman was being held at knifepoint in the 900 block of Teakwood Street.

Whitney and other officers went to the home and found Enrique Jimenez, 42, threatening his three children and a family of five with a knife, said Officer Karl Dyer.

Dyer said Jimenez was believed to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

SWAT officers negotiated with Jimenez for several hours before he finally gave up. He was taken into custody on suspicion of false imprisonment and being under the influence of a controlled substance, Dyer said.

The people inside Jimenez’s home were freed unharmed.

On Sunday, Jimenez was being held at the Ventura County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, authorities said.
