L.A. County Fair

Re “County Fair Finds Itself the Butt of Controversy Over Tobacco Firm,” Aug. 20:

The L.A. County Fair is being protested because some events are being sponsored by a tobacco company. I am not a smoker, but I can’t believe there is controversy over this! This is still more evidence that many people have become dedicated to going off the deep end. Is anybody protesting the myriad sporting events and concerts that are sponsored by alcohol companies? Don’t these events “promote” drinking among our children? Does anybody protest the cartoon shows that children watch, the ones sponsored by sugar-filled cereals?

Those people who are concerned that tobacco-sponsored events at the fair are going to ruin the health of our children need to look at the real dangers to children and get their priorities straight.
