S. El Monte Appoints City Manager
The South El Monte City Council has appointed Alejandro C. Armenta as city manager after a few months in the position on an interim basis.
Armenta, 49, a former city manager of Calexico on California’s southern border, was selected on a 3-1 vote Wednesday. Councilman Jerry Salas dissented and Councilwoman Blanco Figueroa abstained.
“Alex has distinguished himself in recent months with his administrative skill in overseeing the reorganization of City Hall,” Lujan said.
Since June, Armenta has cut the number of supervisors in City Hall and eliminated the job of public works director. “It’s a challenge I am glad to be offered,” Armenta said.
As South El Monte city manager he will oversee a $11.6-million budget and 41 full-time employees serving a population of about 22,000.
