The city will save as much as $211 a tree for trimming services by “piggybacking” onto a contract negotiated by the city of Tustin.

West Coast Arborists of Anaheim has agreed to trim city trees for a flat rate of $39 each.

The city has paid from $50 to $250 a tree in the past for the trimming of its approximately 2,000 trees.

Stanton city officials have awarded a one-year contract to West Coast Arborists, based on the company’s winning bid in Tustin.

Stanton Public Works Director Michael Kim said the piggybacking procedure allows his city to bypass normal competitive bidding procedures.

Tustin officials recently chose West Coast Arborists as the most qualified low-bidder.

The tree-trimming company offered Stanton identical services and costs.

Additional fees and services range from $4 for stump removal to $195 for the planting of a large tree.
