Executive Joins Panel on Domestic Violence
Randy Hoffman of Thousand Oaks, president of Magellan Systems Corp., is one of seven people appointed by Gov. Pete Wilson to the newly formed state Domestic Violence Advisory Council.
Established to administer grants to shelters serving battered women throughout California, the advisory council oversees funding set aside for women and their children escaping violent households. Funds are also made available for legal and advocacy services, and support services for battered women.
Many people think domestic violence affects only the spouse--usually a woman--but children suffer emotionally and physically as well, said Hoffman, 44. In addition to serving on the Domestic Violence Advisory Council, Hoffman is on the executive committee of Kids Safe, a grass-roots organization working to change sexual molestation laws.
He is also a member of the advisory board for Finally Restoring Excellence in Education, whose goal is to break up the Los Angeles Unified School District into smaller districts, and is a member of the San Fernando Valley Industry and Commerce Assn.
“My driving force is to make the world a better place for children to grow up in and to stop what very clearly is a cycle of abuse,” Hoffman said.
