Authorities Identify Surfer Who Drowned
Authorities have identified a surfer who drowned Thursday as a 16-year-old Huntington Beach boy.
Joshua Dean Hall was surfing near the municipal pier about 5 p.m. Thursday. Huntington Beach police said he tried to cross under the pier but hit a piling and sustained major head and chest injuries.
Lifeguards tried to revive him, but Hall was pronounced dead at Pacifica Hospital, police said. The coroner’s office said drowning was the cause of death.
