Santa Ana bicycle maker GT Bicycles Inc. is teaming with New Hall’s Wheels of Cambridge, Mass., to make and market a new lightweight, high-performance “handcycle” for children with disabilities.

New Hall founder Bob Hall was the first person to finish the Boston Marathon in a wheelchair, and in the ensuing 22 years he has built up a business known for its sports equipment for people with disabilities.

GT is a major player in the youth bicycle market and plans to use that position to market the jointly developed juvenile handcycle, first shown last week at the Interbike trade show in Anaheim.

The hand-pedaled bicycle will be manufactured by GT and will carry a combined GT/NHW brand name.
