Parks Wants Tally of Recall Money Online

Arguing that Thousand Oaks’ Web site does not include enough information on recall finances, Councilwoman Linda Parks is asking for full disclosure of recall campaign contribution statements on the Internet.

The City Council passed a campaign disclosure law in March that requires recall groups to report all contributions of $250 or more within 24 hours, and the city clerk’s office must post those donations on the Internet within 72 hours.

However, Parks said in a memo to the council that she has received complaints from constituents about incomplete information on the Web site. To inform the public, she wants the full recall campaign statements to be available on the Internet, not just the large donations.

After receiving a call from Parks regarding the issue, City Clerk Nancy Dillon stated in a memo to City Manager Grant Brimhall that her office has been posting recall contributions on the Internet as required.

The city clerk’s office has not placed the complete recall finance reports on the Internet because it was not directed to do so by the council, Dillon said.

Councilwoman Elois Zeanah faces a recall election Nov. 4.
