Mall Expansion Project to Begin Oct. 1
VENTURA — Mayor Jack Tingstrom announced Monday night that construction on the planned $100-million expansion of Buenaventura Mall will begin at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 1.
Representatives from all four of the major stores--Sears, Robinsons-May, Macy’s and J.C. Penney--will be present for the groundbreaking ceremony, Tingstrom said. Council members Rosa Lee Measures and Jim Monahan gave the mayor a standing ovation when he made his announcement.
The mall is one of the major sources of sales-tax revenues for the city, and the mall expansion is expected to significantly boost those revenues.
The mall expansion should be completed by October 1999.
