District Plan Would Increase Homework

Share

Homework loads will increase for students in the Santa Ana Unified School District under a proposal being considered today by the school board.

Under the proposed policy, teachers will not have to assign an exact amount of homework, but will be expected to meet approximate guidelines, Deputy Supt. Joseph Tafoya said.

“They are general expectations,” Tafoya said. “They are not hard-and-fast rules.”

The amount of homework would vary from grade to grade. The biggest jumps would come in the seventh and eighth grades, where one hour of homework per day would increase to up to 2 1/2 hours four days a week.
