Tiles Installed to Cure Ills at Esperanza High

Share

Esperanza High School teachers are hoping that new tile floors and a thorough cleaning of the school’s 200 Building will stop their sore throats and sneezing.

Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District spent $12,900 to install vinyl tiles in nine classrooms and had custodians thoroughly clean the building this summer after several teachers complained of upper respiratory irritation last school year.

An independent study found that excessive levels of dust coupled with a lack of fresh air in the ventilation system was probably the cause of the complaints.

Officials plan to meet with teachers after a few weeks of school to determine if their symptoms are going away, said Assistant Supt. Kim Stallings.

The district received no complaints from students about the building, which houses science and language arts classrooms as well as the school library.
