Temple Opens After $7-Million Reconstruction

After sharing quarters with a Lutheran church for 20 months, the community’s oldest temple, Kehillat Israel, has moved into a new, expanded facility on Sunset Boulevard.

Executive Director Shelly Rosenberg said the former temple was about one quarter the capacity of the new temple, which was built on the same site. During the $7-million reconstruction, the temple’s Torahs were housed in the nearby Palisades Lutheran Church, where services were held. The Torahs were brought back during a service Friday and the new building will be formally dedicated Oct. 26.
