Drugs at Chowchilla
“Doing Time--and Drugs--in Chowchilla” (Aug. 31) is excellent and, if true, is appalling. No dirty needle from an infirmary should ever be irresponsibly handled or disposed of by untrained staff or inmate help. Theft of infirmary needles suggests a lack of control and a total disregard for the health and safety of prisoners and staff.
There are explicit health and safety codes, policies and procedures for proper disposal of used needles. Warden Teena Farmon needs help or needs to be replaced. She has been working 29 years in the Dark Ages. Why doesn’t she just give the inmates the keys and say, “Have at it.”
