Brymer May Not Play Saturday

Share

It looks as if USC’s running game will have to try to recover Saturday without the help of offensive guard Chris Brymer, who is expected to sit out the Washington State game because of a sprained ligament in his left ankle.

“My guess is he’ll be ready for Cal,” Coach John Robinson said after Brymer sat out another day of practice.

Brymer sat out three games last season because of a broken bone in the same foot, but an MRI this week didn’t show a fracture.

USC plays California on Sept. 27 after an open date, meaning Brymer could get two weeks of rest by skipping one game.

Brymer, a three-year starter, is the unit’s emotional leader.

He would be replaced by David Pratchard, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound junior who appeared in nine games last season.

Tailback Delon Washington didn’t practice Wednesday either after getting a shot for his arthritic knee, but Robinson said he thinks Washington will be OK for Saturday and he remains the scheduled starter.
