Opportunities for Volunteering
The American Red Cross is currently seeking young adults--ages 18 through 27--to serve as members of its Rapid Response Corps (RRC), a division of the AmeriCorp national service program. RRC members provide emergency assistance to victims and communities affected by disaster. Corps members also work to increase preparedness in the areas of greatest need before disasters strike. About 96 members serve full time at American Red Cross chapters in Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Honolulu, Atlanta and Phoenix. For information, call the RRC Recruitment Hotline at (213) 351-6728.
The Family Violence Project, an emergency shelter and counseling program for battered women and their children, is seeking volunteers to counsel battered women on its 24-hour crisis hotline and to act as court advocates. A training program for volunteers begins Oct. 6. Volunteers are also needed to assist at the project’s counseling center in Panorama City and to help with fund-raising events. For information, call (818) 908-5007.
