Summer Drive Nets 20 Tons of Food

The annual summer food drive by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County netted 20 tons of edibles for the county’s hungry.

Second Harvest, the largest nonprofit food bank in the county, feeds about 180,000 people each month, spokeswoman Michelle Sweet said.

Anaheim Angel right fielder Tim Salmon was the keynote speaker for a dinner held this month to recognize individuals and 100 Orange County companies who helped with the drive.

Jack Murphy, program manager at Aerochem Inc., which was recognized for its contributions, said the firm’s motivation was in the faces of those who were helped.

“What drives us is the fact that there are 200,000 children going hungry every month in Orange County,” Murphy said. “How could you not want to get involved?”
