Traffic lights were knocked out, houses left in the dark and businesses closed down after a power outage cut off electricity to almost 2,000 customers Monday evening, according to officials with Southern California Edison.

The outage, which began at 7:02 p.m., affected commercial and residential electricity customers in the area from Poli Street to Market Street, Callens Road to Chrisman Avenue, according to Edison spokesman Paul Klein.

Power surges associated with the initial outage occurred at 7:50 and 8:15 p.m. Klein said almost all power had been restored by 8:45 p.m.
