Construction of Natural Gas Fuel Station to Start
The Whittier Union High School District board has voted to begin construction of a natural gas fueling station, making it the first school district in the state to have its own such facility.
The board voted last week to develop a compressed natural gas station at Greenleaf and Mulberry avenues as soon as the district receives a previously approved $540,000 grant from the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
“It will save money for the school district,” said Steve Cary, assistant superintendent of business. “It is safer and cheaper than gasoline and . . . we will have cleaner air.”
