The first major renovation of the 14-year-old Boys & Girls Club of Stanton is moving ahead, with the $200,000 project expected to get underway before the end of the year.

The city will pay $14,800 from county grant funds to A&E; Consultants of Anaheim to prepare construction plans. Renovations will include refurbishing and expanding the playground area, a new gymnasium floor and kitchen remodeling.

The club, which conducts after-school and summer programs for about 800 school-age children, was re-roofed last year.

Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Neal Hopkins said he expects construction to begin by early December, with completion of the project by June. The renovated club should be able to serve an additional 200 children, Hopkins said.

The project is funded by a county urban park grant that was stalled by the December 1994 county bankruptcy.
