No One Carrying On Tailback Tradition
It will be a little longer before someone lays a solid claim to the tailback’s job, even though USC coaches had hoped either Delon Washington or freshman Malaefou MacKenzie would win it with a strong performance against Washington State.
“We obviously have been struggling at the tailback position because there’s no place to run, but we will not make any announcements about that until we get back on the practice field and get into next week,” Robinson said.
Washington, the starter, had eight carries for 20 yards and MacKenzie had 11 for 14 in the 28-21 loss.
Petros Papadakis, third on the depth chart at tailback, and fullback LaVale Woods, last season’s leading rusher after filling in at tailback, still are waiting for their first carries.
