Land Mines

Share

Andrew Efaw (Commentary, Sept. 11) fails, in his note on the defensive uses of land mines, to show that removing the ones in the Korean demilitarized zone, at this time of extreme tensions, is completely counterproductive, perhaps because it is unthinkably stupid.

However, Jonathan Power seems to imply that very thing, based upon the fact that a single New York Times correspondent couldn’t “find” a single soldier to speak “in favor” of mines--no matter how hard he tried?

Shouldn’t such a policy minefield be negotiated, and defused, by the two Koreas (and the few other parties), instead of satisfying the alleged tactical demands of a dead princess--or her “right-wing” advisor-medium?
