School Board Poised to Fight Creation of Lakewood District
Bellflower schools, which stand to lose a high school and three elementary schools if a district is created in Lakewood, will seek a court order blocking that move, officials said.
“As representatives of our community, we have the obligation to ensure that everything that happens with our district is appropriate and legal,” said board President Linda Devine.
The Lakewood Unified Organizing Committee has been working to form a school district encompassing parts of the Bellflower, ABC, Long Beach and Paramount school districts.
If the Lakewood district is created, Bellflower would also lose its only child development center.
