Officials Mark City’s Anniversary, Cite Redevelopment Efforts
City officials and residents celebrated the city’s 80th anniversary Monday--the same day they televised a City Council meeting for the first time.
“Culver City has come a long way in the past five years,” said Mayor Albert Vera, a 47-year resident. “When I ran for council the most popular sign downtown was ‘for sale’ and ‘for lease. . . .’ Now we have to look around to find an open spot.”
Vera said he is proud of the city’s cleaned-up downtown and declining crime rate and cited ongoing work on the city’s “entryway” on Washington Boulevard as evidence of further revitalization.
Culver City residents who subscribe to Media One cable can view council meetings on Channel 35.
