Kidnapping Faked to Unite Nation
An Israeli found Sept. 12 tied up in an abandoned building said he had faked his kidnapping during Secretary of State Madeleine Albright’s visit to unite the Israeli people, police said. Israel conducted a massive manhunt for Yaacov Schwartz, who was missing for two days, fearing he had been kidnapped by Islamic militants who wanted to make their own mark during Albright’s first official visit to the region to salvage peace moves. Albright herself had persuaded Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat’s police to join the search for Schwartz, 63.
