Benefactors have given the Laguna Beach Unified School District more than $500,000, helping to keep school programs afloat and to pay for a new class in auto design.
SchoolPower, the district’s fund-raising arm, has contributed $481,789 for the school year. The group presented most of the money at a school board meeting Tuesday.
Wendy Offield, the group’s president, said the money will be put to a variety of uses, including helping to fund athletics programs and language, art, drama and music classes.
“It’s really tremendous that you have a community that has so many supportive people,” Offield said Wednesday. “People who can’t give a lot give a little . . . and I think that’s just as valuable.”
Also at the board meeting, Toyota Motor Sales contributed $28,000 to fund an auto design class at Laguna Beach High School.
