Former Estancia Coach Goes to Trial Monday
The trial for Robert Allen Harrington, a former volunteer football coach at Estancia High School, begins Monday in Orange County Superior Court.
Harrington has pleaded not guilty to five counts of felony sexual violations involving two teenage boys. He is accused of showing sexually explicit materials to two boys, ages 15 and 16, and of committing a lewd act and oral copulation with a minor.
The 56-year-old Costa Mesa resident had volunteered as a football coach at Estancia for about five years before he was arrested in August 1996 after police searched his home. School officials have since barred him from coaching.
If convicted, Harrington faces a maximum of five years and eight months in prison. He is free on $50,000 bail.
